Whidbey
Island real estate is still very affordable. Because of the temperate
climate, many people have purchased retirement homes, apartments,
or vacation property on Whidbey Island. Additionally, more than 100
families have moved to Whidbey so that their children can attend a
Waldorf school in a rural Washington environment. South Whidbey Island
is just one hour from downtown Seattle at low traffic times. Bellingham
is only an hour North and you can visit Canada in less than two hours
by road or take the Anacortes ferry to Victoria. The Keystone ferry,
near Coupeville, goes to Port Townsend every hour, so the Olympic
peninsula is very accessible. Oak Harbor is the home of Naval
Air Station Whidbey.

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and Whidbey Playhouse. There are
many artists, potters, glassblowers and their galleries and studios.
Langley is known for it's bed and breakfasts, art galleries, and antique
